    Middle school girls join forces with professional women scientists to confront challenges and find solutions to common problems faced by scientists and engineers.
  • First LEGO League – Team Thunderbolt
    As per the First Lego League model, Team Thunderbolts is a Robotics team that works with STEM professionals and mentors in other areas to construct and program a robot to achieve certain goals and to research and present information on a current topic in STEM fields. The Thunderbolts are comprised of children from Richmond Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority coached and mentored by Science Museum of Virginia staff.
  • Petersburg Youth Summer STEM Program
    Engages local youth in project-based learning activities, introduces them to college age role models pursuing STEM careers, and welcomes them to a university setting in their own back yards.

  • Junior Naturalist Program
    The Junior Naturalist Program is a five-day, excursion oriented program investigating different local habitats with various measuring and collecting equipment, the flora and fauna and their connections with people.  Areas explored include salt marshes, beaches, fossil collecting sites, ponds, fresh water streams and forests.

  • Youth Empowered in Science
    Youth Empowered in Science (YES) provides science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programming to middle school-aged children during after school hours throughout the school year. Programming uses nationally recognized programs pioneered by the Education Equity Center and PCS Edventures including: After School Math Plus, After School Science Plus, Great Science for Girls, Techbridge, and Edventures. We partner with community organizations, such as the YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club and other community centers, to provide programs at their sites or at the museum.
